Animal-Assisted Therapy

Picture
Animal-Assisted Therapy is a therapeutic intervention that incorporates animals into the treatment plan to enhance a client's social, emotional, or cognitive functioning. We use trained horses in our animal-assisted therapy, under the guidance of a qualified professional, that become part of the therapeutic process. Animal-Assisted Therapy can be beneficial for a variety of individuals and conditions, including (but not limited to) those with substance use disorders, individuals in the criminal justice system, and adolescents in treatment settings.

At Stable Connections we use our therapy horses as a medical and
therapeutic tool in our treatment programs to help our clients with mental health, physical rehabilitation, balance, and coordination.
Key Aspects of Animal-Assisted Therapy
  • Formal Therapeutic Intervention:
Animal-Assisted Therapy is a structured and goal-oriented approach, unlike casual animal interactions.

  • Qualified Professionals:
Animal-Assisted Therapy at Stable Connections is facilitated by our professionally trained and certified clinicians who approach therapy with a trauma informed lens, and assisted by highly skilled and trained horse handlers.

  • Trained Horses:
Our therapy horses undergo specific training, screening, and habitualization to ensure they are suitable for therapeutic settings.

  • Goal-Oriented:
Therapy is tailored to the individual's needs and goals, with specific objectives outlined in a treatment plan.

  • Complementary Therapy:
Animal-Assisted Therapy is used to complement and enhance the benefits of traditional therapies.

  • Diverse Applications:
Animal-Assisted Therapy can be applied in various settings, including individual and group sessions, and can be adapted to address a range of conditions.

  • Focus on the Human-Animal Bond:
Animal-Assisted Therapy leverages the positive impact of the human-animal bond to promote well-being.
