The Low Arousal Approach, is a de-escalation strategy focused on reducing stress, fear, and frustration in individuals exhibiting challenging behaviour by minimizing arousal and stress in their environment and interactions.
This person-centred method involves caregivers, parents, and teachers to change their own actions, demeanour, and expectations to prevent behaviours from escalating, rather than using punitive consequences or confrontation. Key components include environmental modifications, sensory considerations, a calm demeanour, reduced demands, and focusing on the underlying causes of behaviour. At Stable Connections we incorporate this approach with a trauma informed lens in all our therapy sessions.
Our Clinical Director is a Registered Raising Kids with Big Baffling Behaviours Course Facilitator, if your community group or team would like to receive training in the Low Arousal Approach - contact the office for more details.
