Occupational Therapists (OTs) are uniquely qualified to assist clients with functional limitations because of their skills, knowledge and competencies across physical, cognitive, and emotional domains. OTs are healthcare professionals with a Master's degree in occupational therapy and registered with the College of Occupational Therapists of Manitoba (COTM). Training includes anatomy, neurology, physiology, and mental health conditions in addition to occupational therapy theory and practical skills.
Occupational Therapists help people of all ages who are experiencing physical, mental, or cognitive challenges that affect their ability to participate in daily activities. They provide rehabilitation using a diverse range of interventions, each with the purpose of improved functioning for the client. |
Our Occupational Therapists are able to combine the positive effects of the medical quality equine movement with other standard intervention strategies to work on fine motor control, sensory integration, feeding skills, play skills, attention skills, emotional regulation skills, and functional daily living skills in a progressively challenging manner.
For example at Stable Connections we help children with various disabilities participate in school, play, and social situations. We assist them with fine motor skills, visual-perceptual skills, cognitive skills, and sensory-processing problems. We help clients with learning disabilities to develop strategies and adapt environments to facilitate learning and participation. We assist clients with mental health conditions helping them manage their daily lives and participate in meaningful activities.

Why is Early Intervention In Therapy Important?
|
Early intervention in physical and occupational therapy is crucial for promoting faster recovery, preventing complications, and maximizing long-term outcomes for individuals of all ages. By addressing issues promptly, these therapies can significantly improve physical and mental well-being, enhance independence, and potentially reduce long-term healthcare costs.
If a child has a developmental diagnosis with known associated delays, Stable Connections encourages starting physiotherapy or occupational therapy before the first signs of delay. This allows us to minimize the delay and prevent learned compensatory patterns. We evaluate children starting as early as 1 month of age for known developmental disabilities as well as torticollis and plagiocephaly |
"The team takes time to connect with our daughter, she is engaged in all the activities, and the animals provide comfort." - Parent.

Children recommended for physical or occupational therapy can highly benefit from the expertise and compassionate care provided by our team of licensed and specially trained therapists. We provide individualized treatment and therapy programs for each child specific to their needs. For example our therapists are trained in the SpiderCage (Universal Exercise Unit) and Dynamic Movement Intervention that can help children succeed. Stable Connections can provide multiple intervention models and therapy tools for physical and occupational therapy to help your child reach their developmental needs (see the full list of therapy tools here), including: |
- SpiderCage (Universal Exercise Unit):
The SpiderCage works through a system of pulleys and weights to help hone balance, muscle control, and motor skills to enhance your child’s abilities.
- Dynamic Movement Intervention:
Dynamic movement intervention involves directly challenging the child’s motor skills through repeated, dynamic exercises to improve balance and function. - Intensive Physical Therapy:
Intensive physical therapy works through intensive, week-long sessions to improve posture, maintain regular movement, and catch up on lost milestones. - Muscle and Joint Strengthening:
Children faced with severe injuries affecting their mobility throughout the muscles and joints can partake in strengthening exercises to regain range of motion and control. - And many More!
